New Year 2020 Resolution

Are you planning to lead a healthier lifestyle and hit the gym this year? Or are you the shopaholic who promises to quit impulse buying every year but fails?

The new year 2020 is here and it brings with it a bucket load of resolutions and promises that we all know we’ll strive hard to keep.

A new year means new goals, new hopes, and new ambitions. However, little do we know how almost half of us end up breaking our resolutions by the end of the first month!

Is that true or what?

The key to sticking to your resolutions is keeping short term, realistic yet exciting goals that help you remain motivated!

Worry no more guys!

Here is a list of 7 simple steps that’ll make you less of a procrastinator and make your new year resolutions more achievable.

1. Keep Short Term Goals that Excite You

The key reason why people fail to keep up their new year resolutions is setting long term goals that become tedious and too far fetched! If you set a wrong goal from the beginning it is bound to be doomed.

2. Make a Plan & Stick to it

Make a master plan and start following it immediately. Also, discuss your plans with your peers and friends as they constantly keep reminding you of your goal when you go astray.

In order for your plan to be a success, one must set a structure in place. Life Coach and Public Speaker Laura Berman Fortgang said:

To succeed, you have to schedule your goals and make them part of your life.

3. One Change at a Time

Multiple resolutions aren’t likely to work. Get that straight. Owed to our limited amount of will power, you simply cannot make all the changes at once, says Ian Newby-Clark, Ph.D., a psychologist at the University of Guelph.

It requires behavioral changes and perseverance. Therefore, take baby steps towards achieving your goal by attempting to make one change at a time.

4. Break Up the Activities

Self-control is limited. Break your resolutions into smaller willingness acts rather than weeks of perseverance.

“‘Lose 10 pounds’ sounds specific, but it’s less likely to work than behavioral goals like, ‘This week I’ll try to go to the gym three times, take the stairs at work at least twice, and bring a healthy lunch every day,” said Andrea Bonior, Ph.D., a psychologist in Washington, DC.

Once your short term goal is fulfilled, you’ll feel much happier and motivated. Fulfillment of short term goals will help strengthen long term resolve.

5. Bring in the Reinforcements

Lean on your friends, family, therapist, or life coach for support when you feel tired, drained or demotivated.

We all need a boost to get back on track every once a while. Don’t try to do this completely on your own. Join a group of like-minded people and rely on their advice.

6. Don’t Lose Hope!

We all go through stress and occasional lows that distract us from our goals. Do NOT worry, panic or give up! Use Mondays as a day to start over and actually do it. Regroup and get back on track!

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you slip up, Instead, cherish over how much progress you have made. It’s never too late to start over!

7. Reward Yourself

Get a mani-pedi and a massage or whatever it is that helps you get re-energized and rebooted once you have achieved a certain part of your goal. Don’t wait until you lose those 20 pounds to give yourself the reward you need.

Cut your self some slack and shake things up. You’ ll feel happier, rejuvenated and revitalized.
