Ali Hamza, a 16-year-old boy from Daska, Sialkot has made the nation proud by achieving the second position in the annual matriculation examinations 2015. Hamza belongs to a poor family background and sells fruits for a living but his determination to study and to succeed in life has made his parents and the people of his town honoured.

In an interview, Ali expressed his immense gratitude and thanked God for his success and said that he worked really hard for this. He also said that he would continue to sell fruits on a cart in order to feed his family and would most definitely pursue his higher education.


Ali studied at the Government High School of Daska and is the sole bread-earner in the family. He is a staunch believer of the dignity of labour and is proud to be a fruit vendor. He also said that his business did not create any impediment in his academic life.

During an interview, Ali said that he resumed the day’s work after getting the medal and the prize. Ali’s parents couldn’t work because of medical issues but he said, “The prayers of my parents are always with me and I consider myself the richest person of the world.”
Ali wishes to be an engineer in the future in order to serve his country and make his parents happy. The entire neighbourhood was elated when they heard the news and many people brought sweets and gifts for the young achiever.

Ejaz Ahmed, the senior headmaster of the school, said that in order to honour Ali’s hard work and determination, the school would host a ceremony after summer vacations.
