Indian Songs Copied

Bollywood has always received hostility for plagiarizing or getting ‘inspiration’ from a lot of Hollywood’s songs. However, what many of us don’t know is that, Big-shot Bollywood music directors have not only taken inspiration from many Hollywood songs but from our own Pakistani songs as well.

Following is the list of the top 14 Indian songs that are ripped off from Pakistan under the label of being ‘highly-inspired’ by our songs.

  1. AAO RAJA

All of you who have traveled in a bus in Pakistan to interiors would definitely have had a moment of realization when they heard the latest Bollywood hit item number from the movie Gabbar is back, ‘Aao Raja’. The Indian song, starring Chitrangada Singh, is a complete item number package with her sizzling performance and sultry outfits. On the other hand, the lyrics would surely remind you of the Pakistani version ‘Kundi na Kharka Sohneya’ from Shaan and Saima starrer, Naseebo.

  1. MUNNI BADNAAM HUI

Who can probably forget the ever sizzling Malaika Arora Khan’s item number, Munni Badnam Hui from the movie Dabangg. However, this steaming item number bears a strong resemblance with Pakistani Qawalli ‘Larka Badnam Hua Haseena Tere Liye’ from the 1992 Pakistani film Mr Charlie starring comedian Omar Sharif.

  1. MAIN TENU SAMJHAWA KI

The all-time hit song, Main tenu samjhawa ki by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan from the film ‘Virsa’ inspired Bollywood singers like ‘Shreya Ghoshal’ and ‘Arijit Singh’ to make their own version of the song and this was later sung by ‘Alia Bhatt’ in the movie ‘Humpty Sharma ki Dhulania’

  1. TU CHEEZ BARI HAI MAST MAST

The chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Ravina Tandon on this song by Udit Narayan and Kavita from the 1994 blockbustor ‘Mohra’  is not even close to the ever-famous qawalli by music sensations like Abida Parveen, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the Sabri brothers, Reshma and Madam Noor Jehan. We believe our version is much better.

  1. YEH JO HALKA HALKA SUROOR HAI

The ever-cherished song ‘Yeh jo halka halka suroor hai’ by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan later inspired Kishore Kumar to copy if not the exact melody, but the exact song in a movie ‘Soutan ki Beti’ in 1989.

  1. LAMBI JUDAI:

Who knew that the famous song ‘Lambi Judai’ from Emraan Hashmi’s movie ‘Jannat’ was actually heavily influenced from Pakistani’s folk singer Reshma’s original song ‘Lambi Judai’ sung for the movie Hero.

  1. MAHIYA

We all remember this very peppy and catchy song in the film Awarapan starring Emraan Hashmi in 2007. But how many of us remembers our very own Annie Khalid singing this song back in 2005?

  1. BHEEGA BHEEGA DECEMBER

Indian musician Pritam is the king of plagiarism and whenever he delivers a hit number, one can’t help but doubt the originality of the melody. That’s why when he used Abrar ul Haq’s ‘December’ (album Majajani, released on New Year’s Eve in 1998) in his movie Chocolate (2005), no one was surprised. Not surprisingly, the movie bombed, for it was a blatant copy of Bryan Singer’s classic The Usual Suspects.

  1. DIL LAGA LIA MAINE

It’s my favourite singer Udit Narayan again – but I am sure he didn’t know that the song he (along with co-singer Alka Yagnik) was giving his vocals to, was inspired from Hadiqa Kiyani’s ‘Boohay Baarian’ that was released in 1998 through her album Roshni.

  1. AGAR TUM MIL JAO

In 2005, Anu Malik came up with a hit number ‘Agar Tum Mil Jao’ that was sung by Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal but unknown to many, it was the song that made Tasawwar Khanum a household name in the ’70s. The original song, from the Rangeela-Munawar Zarif starrer, Imandar and composed by Nashad, is still popular after 40 years and we don’t thank Mr.Malik for copying our product!
