The Supreme Court has sent out direct orders to demolish the ‘illegal’ properties in Karachi. The decision by the SC has affected about one million lives currently occupying the lands.
The residents living in these areas have been conned into buying these ‘whitewashed’ plots years back as legal properties and also hold complete ‘pseudo-legal’ documentation of the houses/plots.
More than thirty thousand houses have been made unlawfully with the approval of government years back through ‘china-cutting’.
The following neighborhoods in Karachi will be facing evacuation:
- North Karachi
- Baldia Town
- Kemari
- Surjani Town
- Hyderi
- Korangi
- Scheme 33
- Khuda ki Basti
- Pehlwan Goth
- Banaras
- Kunwari Colony
- Etihad Town
- Gulshan-e-Maymar
- Gulistan-e-Jauhar
- Sohrab Goth
- Ahsan Abad
The houses under question were made under the supervision of the government and were sold for Rs 200,000 to Rs. 1,000,000. The Surjani Town’s 4L houses were destroyed that led to residents protesting and blocking roads as they had spent their hard-earned money in the construction of their homes.
Sources have mentioned that houses are still being sold in Surjani Town for as low as 6 lac rupees.
The residents of the various neighborhoods under the line of fire have asked the government to compensate them with monetary reimbursement and also for relocation as they would now be losing their homes.
