An extravagant hotel billed as the most luxurious in the world is set to open in Macau later this summer at an eye-watering price tag of $1.4 billion — or $7 million per room.

Dubbed simply, ‘The 13′ after hotel czar Stephen Hung’s favorite number, the property is a jaw-dropping testament to all the things money can buy. The 200 palatial, multi-level suites span a minimum of 2,000 square feet (185 square meters) and are decorated with bespoke furnishings, sculptures, drapery and tableware.

That includes Baroque-inspired frescos on the ceiling; heavy velvet, gold-fringed drapes hung across the rooms; black and white marble checkered floors; stained glass windows; neo-classical columns and spectacular crystal chandeliers.

It’s the kind of hotel that reduces the one percent to yet another upper echelon, for whom public elevators would never do.

Which is why guests access their room with a private elevator which opens directly into their suite, much like a New York-style penthouse.

Regular suites are referred to as Villa du Compte, but the Villa de Stephen is reserved for the one percent of the one percent, topping out at 30,000 square feet (2,787 square meters).

Likewise, guests have access to 24-hour butler service, staffed by professionals trained by MCM Palace Consultants in Paris and certified by the English Guild of Butlers.

To announce their VIP status, guests are shuttled to and from the hotel in the hotel’s fleet of flamboyant red Roll-Royce Phantoms. “This was a labor of love,” Hung, co-chair of The 13 Holdings Ltd. said in a statement.

“The team and I put every ounce of creativity and passion we had into this project to ensure every detail was perfect. Our guests, I believe, will find the result truly remarkable and beyond anything they have previously experienced.”

Along with six Chinese, French and Japanese restaurants and bars, the hotel will also open L’Atelier, billed as the world’s first private, invitation-only shopping space that will feature exclusive, bespoke products by high-end luxury brands.

The 13 is slated to open in Macau late this summer, not long after the delayed opening of another hotly anticipated luxury hotel, the Wynn Palace Cotai, a $4.1 billion, floral-themed property that will feature 1,700 rooms.
