Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli is in the public spotlight but this time around it’s not for cricket or his dating life. The skipper has announced on ending his 6-year long association with beverage giant, Pepsi Co.

It was reported that Kohli had been having reservations about endorsing the fizzy drink brand and had been looking at other options in March. The deal fetches the skipper multi crores in brand endorsements. It is a big loss for Pepsi as the batsman is a popular youth icon and at the top of his game at the moment.

Virat was quoted while speaking to CNN-IBN,

“If I myself won’t consume such things, I won’t urge others to consume it, just because I am getting money out of it.”

Kohli deserves major respect for sticking by his decision as he is speaking up and doing something he believes in, knowing how much he has to lose by letting the multi-billion rupee deal go!

For those who are fans of the Indian captain and follow him on his social media accounts will know the rigorous protein rich diet he follows that includes lean meat, salmon, and boiled vegetables. This surely leaves no room for soft drinks and would make one wonder why he would endorse Pepsi.

The batsman is at the moment in the best shape of his life as he takes numerous gym and training sessions to achieve all that he does on and off the field.

I believe I can fly 🤓. Throwback to one of the many practice sessions. 👌👌. #lovewhatido

Pepsi Co had also Mahendra Singh Dhoni on board as their brand ambassador, however, the 11-year contract also ended in 2016 when Dhoni opted NOT to extend the contract. With two of the major stars of the Indian cricket team cutting off ties with the beverage giant, it will be interesting to see what marketing strategy Pepsi would adopt next.
