Mawra Hocane’s debut Bollywood movie Sanam Teri Kasam is in cinemas now and it is everything we thought it would be – an average script, somewhat okay direction. The movie would be an epic flop if it were not for Mawra’s convincing performance and the tangible chemistry between the two lead actors.

WARNING: If you cry easily at romantic movies – take a tissue box with you to the show. The amount of tears Mawra Hocane has shed in this movie could easily bring another tsunami.

Sanam Teri Kasam is an intense love story of two completely opposite people Saraswathy Parthasarathy (Saru), a Tamilian Brahmin and her well-to-do neighbor Inder (Harshwardhan Rane). The romantic film has yet received mixed reviews from both the critics and the fans. Directed under the banner of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru debuts a Pakistani actress Marwa Hocane and a Telegu actor Harshwardhan Rane as their first Bollywood innings as lead actors.

Sanam Teri Kasam is like bits and pieces of storylines were thrown together. A sloppy South Indian girl Saru who lives with her strict father. Saru because of her dowdy appearance is always rejected as a marriage proposal. Finally, tired of the rigid reaction of people towards her, she plans to transform herself to give her a new look and that’s when her life changes completely.

Ain’t that amazing? Take off the glasses, straighten your hair, wear a sari and all of a sudden you become ‘marriage material’.

Inder, on the other hand, has daddy issues that are revealed in the movie after a lot of unrequired suspense. Shown as the ‘strong, silent’ type, Inder falls for the tomboyish Saru and does absolutely nothing to show it.

Tragedy strickes in the form of a brain tumor and thus begins the tsunami of Mawra’s tears.

Manish Choudhari as Saru’s stern father essays his role competently and brings alive the character of the Tamil Brahmin authoritarian patriarch on screen. Murli Sharma as the policeman who is a sucker for love stories performs well too.

Anurag Sinha as Abhimanyu Shastry, Saru’s colleague and crush, offers a sincere portrayal.

Many celebrities also wished good luck to the newly introduced Bollywood actors.

BollywoodLife.com said: “There are ample moments that showcase the natural chemistry of the leads Mawra and Harsh. In fact their pairing sort of reminds you of Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha from Aashiqui 2”

NDTV said: “The makers of Sanam Teri Kasam are embarrassingly outdated in their thinking – they would have us believe that all that a Parthasarathy girl has to do to attain salvation is become a Parihaar. Which century do they live in? Sanam Teri Kasam is excruciatingly painful. The torture it inflicts has as much to do with its length as with what transpires between the start and end points.”

Bollywood Hungama said: “SANAM TERI KASAM is a decent assortment of good performances and superb music. However, the excessive length of the film will act as a biggest single drawback at the box-office.”

Koimoi.com said: “The makers of Sanam Teri Kasam try hard to give you a love story that hooks you in emotionally. For a Bollywood debut, both Mawra Hocane and Harshwardhan Rane put up a decent show.”

So if you are up for a sentimental dramatic movie this month then Sanam Teri Kasam is the best movie for you. Mawra is seen crying in almost every scene of the movie – and she does it beautifully. So you better keep some tissues handy when you are up for this movie.

One thing is for sure! Mawra Hocane is the one to watch! Wouldn’t be surprised if she gets more movie deals in 2016!
