The construction of Peshawar’s very first zoo has been approved, and very soon the city’s residents will be able to to enjoy a trip to see their favourite animals. According to the wildlife department’s chief conservator, the construction of the zoo will take place in phases with the very first phase beginning soon after this approval at the cost of Rs. 127 million.

The location of the zoo will be on Palosai Road in Peshawar, and will have ease of access so that the public can enjoy its perks. The chief conservator has said, “A zoo serves several purposes including entertainment, education, awareness, research and development and most importantly, breeding of rare native species.”

The establishment of this recreational facility will indeed be a treat for the Peshawari people. According to Safdar, 25 acres of land has been given to them without any charges by the forest department.

The initial phase of construction will focus on the boundary walls of the zoo, and further development of the project will continue as funds become available.

Currently, the Peshawar Development Authority has given many deer and zebras for the Bagh-e-Naran zoo located in Hayatabad; however the zoo is short of the infrastructure and facilities of a proper zoo.

A summary of the project has been given to the chief minister, and a foundation laying ceremony is expected to be held in a week.

Update: Three lion cubs were born on Wednesday at the Lahore Zoo t0 African lions Kajal and Ricky. “We examined the cubs today. They are doing well and being attended to by their mother,” Samuel Shahzad, the Lahore Zoo Veterinary Doctor said.
