Norwegian Telecommunications giants, Telenor Group, in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center, have announced the second edition of the ‘Youth Summit’ conference is to be held from the 9th to 11th of December this year in Oslo, Norway.

Telenor encourages technological enthusiastic, students, and social entrepreneurs of the future, between the ages of 18 and 25, to come forward and present their ideas at the three-day conference.

28 Students from Telenor’s geographical footprint in Asia and Europe will come together with fellow peers, experienced professionals, and industry executives and discuss how digital communications can make an impact in the social development of individuals and communities alike.

Last year, more than 260 applications were received from Pakistan alone, where only two young students, Saad Hamid and Awais Imran, were chosen to represent the country at the inaugural summit.

Out of all the ideas, about 100 ideas were shortlisted and put on the djuice website, for public voting. More than 6,700 votes were casted, with the top 11 ideas being presented to a jury, comprising of Pakistan Country Consultant for Google Inc., Badar Khushnood, President of Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), Jehan Ara, and Director Marketing Telenor Pakistan, Usman Javaid.

Saad Hamid presented his’60-Second Education’ idea, which is a solution for filtering information from across the web and social media websites, electronic and print media, and then compiling a short, 60-second video from the bits and pieces to educate young people.

Awais Imran’s ‘Learning a new language using Mobile ICT’ idea was the other winner of the competition.

Telenor Pakistan plans on continuing the same criteria as last year to select the two representatives for Pakistan at the Youth Summit 2014. Telenor encourages students within the stipulated age bracket to submit their ideas revolving around the use of mobile communication and internet in the wellbeing of the society as a whole. Interested candidates can participate and share their ideas on the Telenor Youth Summit website.

The two winners will be decided by a jury comprising of industry officials and last year’s winners.

This is an exciting new forum for the future technological leaders of the world. We wish all the interested applicants the very best of luck!
