Microsoft has finally made good on its promise and released access to Excel, Word and PowerPoint apps for Android phones.

This is a great news for all android smartphone users because the MS Office Apps can now be used for free as apps.

Kirk Koenigsbauer, Microsoft office team corporate vice president, stated in a blog post: “I’m pleased to announce the general availability of the new Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android phone.”

The apps are available on Google’s Online Play Store – Android’s app store – and are part of Microsoft’s plan to make these applications available as services in the Internet cloud that can be accessed from a vast array of devices.

In the blog post, Koenigsbauer also said, “These join our previously released Office apps for Android tablets to complete the Office experience for the millions of Android users around the world.”

There was a trial period conducted for these apps prior to the widespread release, wherein certain features were added as a result. These include making the process of connecting to digital storage services like Box and Google Drive more simplistic, as well as connecting to OneDrive, Microsoft’s own storage service.
