LUX Style Awards announces Nominations in 22 categories

16 May, 2013
The Awards office of the 12th Annual LUX Style Awards announced nominations in 22 categories in the field of television, music and fashion in Karachi yesterday. The three distinct juries that debated and voted for the TV, Music and Fashion nominations had an intensive and challenging task to narrow down to five nominations per category.

The Film Jury refrained from suggesting any 2012 release for nomination this year.
The eight TV nominations were divided into satellite and terrestrial for the Best Serial, Best Actor/Actresses categories. The final winner for each of these categories is decided by Viewer’s Choice votes while Nominees for Best Director and Writer Awards will be decided via Jury Votes. Hum Tv’s mega blockbuster hit Humsafar has a presence in all relevant categories as it is now eligible for inclusion this year as against 2011 as per the rules of the LUX Style Awards. The competition in all TV categories is expected to be intense.
Competition for the nine Fashion Categories was tough and challenging. The Jury, made up of Fashion Editors and journalists across Pakistan voted for top five in each category. Fashion’s new vibrancy is gauged most by the entry of so many new practitioners in the Emerging Talent category. The other categories reflected the state of the industry with its blend of entrenched old guard still exciting with new ideas and the push up by vibrant new talent to edge them out and gain a foothold in the big design, styling and photography categories.
The LUX Style Awards for excellence in the field of Entertainment and Fashion in Pakistan are held annually and aired throughout the country on several national channels.

“Magnum” presents the photographic book, "Tapulicious 2" by Tapu Javeri

8 May, 2013
“Tapulicious 2”, a sequel of the scrumptious book was successfully launched by Markings Publishing at Indus Valley School of Art s and Architecture. Magnum, being the only sponsor of the book created perfect synergy by associating itself with the brand, both depicting “finer things in life”.

The launching ceremony was hosted by Hasan Amin started off by giving accolades to the acclaimed designer & author of the book, Tapu Javeri. Kiran Aman, Brand council member of Magnum was the first person called upon at the podium to speak about the event. Mr.Muneer Taufiq, Brand Manager Magnum was then called to share his views about the launch of the second book. Lastly, Tapu was invited to talk about the book who said” If you want a taste of my book, you’re going to have to eat it”.

Tapulicious 2 is a continuance in the photographer’s series of photography books. This volume chronicles his days at Xtra magazine from the early 90s, to the present. Tapulicious 2 covers people from all walks of life from renowned model Aminah Haq, to prominent writers such as Hanif Qureshi and Arundati Roy, the famous Bilawal Zardari Bhutto, to the eminent names in the media world- Fawad Khan & Babra Sharif to legendary singers such as Boney M and Alamgir.

Tapu Javeri has progressed to becoming one of Pakistan’s most talked about and widely published photographers, starting from a tiny dark room at home almost 25 years ago. An Anthropology BA from Bard College, New York, prepared Javeri for observing the world while photography enabled him to frame it through a camera lens. Yet, Javeri’s style is more creatively assertive than observational. Both as an artist using mixed media (oils and photos) and a photographer, Javeri has always believed in a strategy of shock and awe, sometimes combining erotic themes with organic imagery at other times generating cheeky, ironic images that redefine the public’s notion of celebrities. In the 90’s he worked on the avante garde magazine Xtra as Photo Editor with co-author Arif Mahmood, painting a bathtub gold for actor Resham and coating boy band Awaz in luminous paint offset by black light. His work has appeared in numerous publications including Herald, Newsline, Gallerie (India) and Visage.

Speaking recently about the book Tapu javeri commented” “This book is a celebration through the years of not just fashion personalities, but interesting people from various backgrounds. Pulling out unseen images from my extensive archive, Tapulicious 2 packages and delivers them in an engaging way.”

The attendees including Maheen Khan, Nomi Ansari, Sanam Chaudhry, Zeba Bakhtiar, Wardha Saleem, Feeha Jamshed, Ayyan, Cheena Chapra, Fareshteh Aslam, TU Dawood, Nazneen Tariq and more.
