Intel launches new processor

KARACHI: Combining unprecedented security, performance and energy efficiency, Intel Corporation launched the Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series. “The Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series will be the backbone of mainstream computing environments,” Country Manager Intel Pakistan, Ashar Zaidi said. The new processors deliver two new security features that enable faster encryption and decryption performance for more secure transactions and virtualised environments, providing data centers with a stronger foundation for cloud security. Data centers will also benefit from the power efficiency of the Intel Xeon processor 5600 series.

Mobilink solution to reinstate BIS

LAHORE – Mobilink has developed and implemented an innovative content-filtering solution to reinstate internet services for the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS), says a press release.

New Nokia GM for Pakistan

Nokia Pakistan recently announced that Arif Shafique, previously Head of Sales, Nokia Pakistan and Afghanistan has been promoted to the position of General Manager (GM), Nokia Pakistan and Afghanistan. Backed by more than four years of experience with in Nokia Pakistan, coupled with his overall 20 years of work experience, Arif has an in-depth understanding of company’s critical management processes and is one of the few employees to have been associated with the company since its inception in Pakistan, says a press release.

During his tenure at Nokia, Arif has shown consistently remarkable performance and has made substantial contribution to company’s top-line as well as bottom-line growth.

wi-tribe and UET Unveil ‘wi-cam’- Taking Customer Experience to the Next Level

Lahore – 24th January, 2012: wi-tribe Pakistan, rated number one for customer satisfaction, and Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science, University of Engineering and Technology (KICS-UET) unveiled ‘wi-cam’ at a press conference held at the UET campus today.

wi-cam, a CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Management and Administration tool, developed by students and graduates of KICS-UET using open-source technology, allows broadband companies, such as wi-tribe, to remotely configure and manage CPEs, while receiving instant notifications and access to live data. Not only does this result in an improved customer care experience, it also enables customers to continue enjoying seamless connectivity.

wi-tribe entered into a strategic public-private partnership with KICS-UET to conceive, develop and launch a fully funded research and development program, enabling the innovation of this breakthrough feature-rich management tool. With wi-cam, wi-tribe and UET jointly demonstrate that sourcing local development of critical customer service innovation is not only possible, but also essential to the proliferation of technical capabilities within Pakistan.

Seminar on products being used by mobile operators held

A seminar on complete range of products being used by all mobile operators and major service providers was held here at Islamabad Club.

The Seminar was recently organized by ITEL, a telecom solution provider which specializes in providing solutions from leading suppliers in the world to local customers which include all major telecom operators and service providers.

Around 200 participants from the telecom sector including representatives from PTCL, NTC, PTA, MOITT, Mobilink, Telenor, Ufone, Warid, Zong, Wateen, Worldcall, Wateen, Wi-Tribe, Augere, TWA, Multinet, NSN, Alcatel Lucent, Ericsson, ZTE, Huawei, PTV, Express News, Dunya TV and major sub contractors working in the telecom sector attended. The seminar started with welcome from CEO and Managing Partner, Khurrum Makhdoom followed by an introduction to ITEL by Humayun Kamran, COO and Managing Partner.

Lawrence Leng, Field Marketing Manager from Anritsu along with Darren Lim, Channel Sales Manager provided the audience with an absorbing session on solutions for their future requirements including a brief training session on their Site Master and OTDR line of products. The audience found the seminar very useful in better understanding of the applications and features of Anritsu products. Such events should be held regularly to keep the telecom community up to date with the latest trends and technologies.

ITEL is the authorized exclusive partner for Anritsu in Pakistan, which is a market leader in test and measurement solutions for broadcast, wireless, optical and wire line.

Emirates increases flights

Emirates has announced two additional flights a week to Northern Pakistan. From February 7th Emirates will serve its passengers in Lahore and Islamabad eight times a week, says press release.

The airline will now be operating 47 flights into and out of Pakistan with an additional weekly flight operating to both Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore and Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad.

Zong supports charity concert

In line with it policy to support the underprivileged members of the society, ZONG supported a charitable concert organised by Arthritis Care Foundation (ACF) in collaboration with Learning Alliance Community Services (LACS), says a press release.

The charitable event was organised to raise funds for those people who have been crippled due to rheumatic disease but do not have the money to get medical care and treatment.

ZONG, which has also supported numerous philanthropic causes in the past, was the title sponsor of this concert.

The telecom company, realising its responsibility as a corporate citizen, joined hands with the foundations working to prevent and fight disabilities caused by rheumatic disease.

Funds collected through this event will be utilized to sponsor free medical treatments such as diagnostic tests and joint replacements for the deserving patients.

IBA to train NBP workers
