In order to keep up with the vast options provided by other Messenger apps, Facebook Messenger keeps updating its features to meet the latent needs of consumers. The latest option added by Facebook, this time around is that it provides you with additional details whenever any other person messages you for the first time.

Whenever a new user messages you for the first time, the Facebook Messenger collects all the additional details of that person through their Facebook profile which includes their job, town or city, residential location as well as mutual friends (in case there are any) and displays them above the message which has been sent.

According to a Facebook spokesperson it serves well as an icebreaker and is useful enough for a person who has to jog through their memory and remember where and when they could have met with this acquaintance before.

The feature is not restricted to people who are not in the user’s friend’s list but can be applied to those who are already existing Facebook friends but have never messaged before.

The Feature is being introduced in U.S., UK, France and India in the upcoming weeks, for both iOs and Android users.

The good thing about this feature is that it does not violate any privacy settings, so only the in information which is publically displayed to you or custom-set for you will appear to you.

According to TechCrunch the feature can be beneficial for users in their professional lives and it can also alter the way messages get routed to the “Other” inbox on Facebook.

The Messenger’s user engagement will also be boosted due to the introduction of this feature.
