The government has allocated over Rs 70 billion for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s (CPEC) road-related projects in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2017-2018.
The National Highway Authority had proposed to target mega-infrastructure projects that are to be completed in 2018 when the next general elections will be held. A total of 12 motorways and highways out of the ongoing 13 projects are set to be completed by 2018.
The NHA had proposed:
- Rs 700 billion for 76 projects
- including Rs 500 billion for CPEC related projects.
- The government has decided to allocate Rs 323.7 billion that includes Rs. 90.15 billion of foreign aid for 2017-18 under the banner of the PSDP.
However, the list of Projects approved by the Government under CPEC are as follows:
- Hakla on M1 to Yarik D.I.Khan Motorway – Rs 38 billion
- Thakot to Havelian – Rs 25.25 billion
- Basima Khuzdar – Rs 1.5 billion
- Dualization of Yaril-Mughalkot-Zhob Section – Rs 4.6 billion
- Thakot to Havelian project – Rs 800 million
