Facts about Pakistani cinema you may not know...

  1. During the shoot of a film named “Sahil”, actor Sudhir fought a real lion during an action scene
  2. The upcoming action flick ‘Waar’ is the most expensive film produced with a whooping budget of ,000,000. Approximately pkr 17 crores.
  3. Bol, a Shoaib Mansoor film, has been the highest earning film in the Pakistani industry.
  4. Pakistan’s first X rated horror film was ‘ZindaLaash’ released in 1967. It was so shocking in its time that a woman had a heart attack in the theatre. Zinda Laash also has the distinction of being the first ever horror film to be screened at two major film festivals abroad; the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival in Spain and the Neuchatel International Festival of Fantastic Films in Switzerland.
  5. During his visit to Iran, Pakistani President IskandarMirza took film “Intezar” (1956) with him and showed it to the King of Iran. This film was honored with President’s Award.
  6. With the birth of this country, Pakistan had over 1500 cinemas which kept increasing till the 1960s. Now the number merely touches 150.
  7. Pakistan’s first sports film is to be released in November by the title of’"Main Hun Shahid Afridi", is being produced by Humayun Saeed and Shazad Nasib.
  8. Wahid Murad was the only movie actor in the indo Pak subcontinent who, during his 23 year film career, worked as an actor, director, producer and scriptwriter.
  9. Actress Deeba charged only one Pakistani rupee being heroine in the film ‘Milan’ (1964).
  10. The first Pakistani English movie, ‘Beyond the Last Mountain’ was released in 1976 and was directed and written by Javed Jabbar. It is the first and only English language film, which was shown at the first Bombay International Film Festival in 1976. It was also released in Urdu with title "Musafir".
