UPDATED:

All hail to the power of social media, after facing strong backlashing online, Centaurus Mall management has decided to relax the entry fee stipulation terms. According to the new rules, the Rs100 requirement will only be implemented from 8pm onwards.

Also, the amount is adjustable with any purchases made during visits to the mall.

While talking to Dawn, Centaurus Marketing Manager, Kashif Butt said, “Currently, we receive around 25,000 visitors every day. But in our three-year experience, we know that these numbers can rise to 50,000 per day after the 15th of Ramazan, which would be very difficult to handle.”

“The administration was wary of the young men who would come to the mall and just wander around or disturb others who had come with their families. A number of families have even complained about certain rowdy boys’ behavior,” he said.

In the public notice issued on Thursday titled ‘making shopping convenient for our valued customers’, the management of Centaurus Mall announced the entry fees imposition of Rs. 100 per person.

This notice also contained a long list of people who will be exempted from the entry coupon. Among others, it includes kids under the age of 12, people over the age of 60, government employees and staff of national and international airlines.

Shazia Atta Marri, Member National Assembly of Pakistan belonging to Pakistan People’s Party termed this decision of the mall management as ridiculous.

According to her, there is no need to charge people for entering the mall and if the management indeed wants to impose such a fee then no one should be exempted from it.

Seconding Shazia, Senator Saeed Ghani of Pakistan People’s Party labeled the act as unacceptable and discriminatory. He also announced that he will raise the issue in Senate.

The social media, especially Twitter was flooded with public oppositions against this decision.

Previously, the management of Centaurus was barred from collecting a parking fee by the Islamabad High Court when the mall administration imposed a Rupees 200 parking fee for cars in 2013.
