There are a number of global and local advertisements which have become a part of history. Some are remembered for their logos, some for their icons and some for their jingles, but no matter how you may remember them, they are all unforgettable. The famous ‘1984 commercial” for Apple computers created much fervor although it was aired only once during a Super Bowl game during the daytime. It was directed by Ridley Scott and it introduced the Macintosh PC for the first time. It is considered one of the most influential commercials of all time. The image of the Marlboro Man as the rugged cowboy was first conceived in 1954 by Leo Burnett. It was introduced when Marlboro wanted to make its filtered cigarettes popular which were then considered to be feminine. The masculine persona of the rugged cowboy was able to deliver this so effectively that it is considered to be one of the best advertising campaigns in history. Another legendary ad was that of Volkswagon who hired Doyle Dane Bernbach ad agency to create a campaign that would introduce the Beetle to the US market. The ad stood out for its emotional appeal and was innovative in terms of its creativity especially in the light of the environment in which it was introduced. It was able to boost sales and create brand loyalty as well.

On the local front, there are some brands that we will always associate with a memorable jingle or symbol. Peek Freens biscuits are always associated with the Pied Piper and the newer version of the ad has also used the same jingle as the classic one. The same is the case with the Kiwi shoe polish ad which has the same jingle and classroom setting as its predecessor. Even the Lipton ads still capitalize on the “chai chahiye” jingle. The Naurus, Binaca and State life ads are also remembered fondly for the models used in the ad as well as the jingles. Take a walk down memory lane and view the ads below:
